Pregnancy Diary – Week 11

I am really happy I started writing this pregnancy diary. I was reading the earlier posts this week and I felt like reliving those weeks all over again!

This week of pregnancy started with announcing the news to my mom and my husband’s family. They all live in different cities, so we did it via WhatsApp video call, and we were able to see everyone’s reaction! That was so exciting and fun! We showed them a picture of our latest ultrasound and let them guess what was going on!

Another exciting adventure was one more blood test. Oh, how I “love” them! But this one was a must – NIPT testing. The nurse decided to use a baby needle for this test after seeing how excited I was to give blood. She left the room to find a baby needle, and then in the middle of the process, another nurse came in and I heard them whisper about something.

Apparently, they need to use a regular needle for NIPT testing. The nurse said that it was strange as she had used baby needles on other women for this testing before. Anyway, I had to have my other arm poked with a regular needle. Good thing she only filled 1 tube the first time, so not a lot of my blood got wasted.

I did some googling about needles after that, and apparently, with smaller-sized needles, blood is more likely to get destroyed (red blood cells may rupture) or clot. And since my sample was going all the way to Ontario for the testing, it now makes sense why they needed to use a regular-sized needle. Plus the test costs $550, so it is good to make sure it is done properly!

There was an option to check a box if you also wanted to find out the sex of the baby, free of charge. We did not check this box, we are still determined to get surprised when the baby is born!

Our kumquat (the size of the baby now) is very busy this week developing internal organs, and he or she is able to wiggle the tiny little legs and arms in there! Sometimes I wish I could have a peek inside and see what the baby is doing:)

My favourite thing to do this week has been sleeping. With my body working on growing a baby 24/7, I want to sleep all the time. It feels like I am getting more exhausted with every week. This pregnancy fatigue is real. I did manage to squeeze in a couple of workouts this week though, in an attempt to boost my energy. It helped, but the energy did not last long. Hopefully, I will have more energy in a couple of weeks when the placenta is up and running.

Now I just have to stay positive and not worry too much while we are waiting for NIPT test results. That is my main focus for the next few days.
