And… it’s a GIRL! We became parents! I am now a mom, and my husband is a dad!
Our little cutie pie was born on Sunday, March 29th, 2020, at 15:22, one day before her due date. She is healthy and so sweet!
Her name is Nina Mariana. She is named after her maternal great-grandmother, and also after my aunt – so this name runs in my family. My aunt’s birthday is on March 30th, and she lives in a different country and in a different time zone – when our little girl was born on March 29th here in Canada, it was already March 30th in Russia, therefore we thought it would be very special to name our little girl Nina. Now we have 2 Ninas in a family who were born on the same day (well, almost!). I think it is pretty neat!
My husband came up with the second name as a combination of Nina’s grandmothers’ names: Marilyn and Tatiana = Mariana! I absolutely loved this idea, such a great way to honour our moms!
Her delivery went smoothly and pretty quickly considering this was my first labour: my water broke at 9 am and she was born at 15:22 pm. When we arrived at the hospital, shortly after 10 am, I was already 5-6 cm dilated and my cervix was fully effaced. I believe it had something to do with me eating dates during the last four weeks of pregnancy.
Giving birth was very painful, and there was a moment when I was ready to give up my no-drugs plan and asked to give me an epidural, but it was too late. By that time I was already fully dilated and it was time to start pushing! Laughing gas was not an option for pain relief due to coronavirus, therefore I had to power through the pain. Luckily, I had my husband by my side all the time, he talked to me, encouraged me, massaged my back and held my hand. I would not have coped with labour pain without him! I heard that some hospitals were not allowing any partners during labour amidst quarantine, so it was a great relief to know that our hospital did not have that strict policy yet. I could still have one support person with me. However, no visitors were allowed.
Now when Nina is born, I am happy that there was no time for epidural and my labour went without any drugs, just as I wanted it to be. But if we decide to have a second child, I am not sure if I would want to do it all natural again, but right now I feel like a champion! And I am happy that my baby girl did it too, without any drugs assistance!
We are overwhelmed with love and look forward to taking Nina home and spoiling her with cuddles and kisses!
